Chapter 8 - No Water!

“…ye have not, because ye ask not.”

—James 4:2

We were off once again on a new adventure
for the Lord. We had a meeting in a local
church in Louisiana to present our ministry to
Africa. I called the pastor before we left home and
he informed me that I would be teaching Sunday
School, preaching in the eleven o’clock service,
and preaching and showing slides in the evening
service. He also told me that we would be lodging
in the home of one of his church members who was
away on vacation.
As we drove toward our destination, we were
discussing what we hoped the house would be like.
Linda hoped it had four bedrooms, Angie wanted at
least two bathrooms, Jr., and Joy wished for a pool
so we could go swimming, and I hoped the house
would have air-conditioning.
When we arrived in town, the pastor took us to
the house we were to stay in for the next two nights.
It had four bedrooms and two full baths. It did
indeed have air-conditioning. There was even a big
swimming pool. This is going to be a very relaxing
stay. The temperature is so hot, the swimming pool
is going to be refreshing.
The home had everything that everyone in our
family wanted. We were excited about lodging in
this wonderful house for our time here at this church.
Then the pastor took us out to see the pool and said,
“You will not be able to use the pool because there
is no water in it!” The pastor said the owners had
drained it and did not have time to refill it before
they left on vacation.
We were all a little sad about the swimming pool,
but three out of four was great. And this taught us
a valuable lesson that when you ask the Lord for
something, be specific. We forgot to ask for a pool
full of water!
